Can an app store game be better than a game console release?
I think so, this game is definitly much better than the console release. At least I have fun doing gestures here while the console release gets frustrating and boring after awhile. This is one of the better games on the iphone/ipod touch at the moment, with superb graphics and touch input. I just love using gestures to do my Jedi/Sith force mayhem.
Some of the oddities I saw was the really weird looking Darth Vader (not in a bad way but looks totally funny compared to the console release). The gestures are not that hard if you make them in bigger circles and play on landscape view. The game itself is quite snappy with amazing graphics and audio. Definitly a 5 star.
I was playing the PS3 demo of the console game just before I saw the App store version for mobile apple devices. I bought it without a thought! It's well worth 10 bucks!
5 stars! Well done Apple! Lucas Arts!
uk read why
ends to soon!
WASTE of money!
can't use lightsaber!
only good thing is more force powers
Worth .99, but not much more.
Let me just start off by saying that I have a love/hate relationship with any game that was also released for consoles. This is one that wavers between 'love' and 'hate'. The graphics are slightly annoying, and are a bit pixelly. I personally don't like the way that you don't have full control over your character, like you do in the Avatar iPod/iPhone game. The Secret Apprentice runs through little cutscenes and then you have enemies attack you, and you have to use force powers to destroy them/pull levers/open doors/pull or push things. It gets repetetive and annoying after a while. The use of force powers is quite fun, to tell the truth, letting you switch between powers and draw patterns that make the character use a Force power. While that's an interesting idea, they should have also included a d-pad and made you able to walk where you please. In this the only thing you do is draw the patterns. Also, the only use of the lightsaber is when blocking blaster bolts. This is hardly even a game in the sense that I'm used to. It took me about an hour and a half to beat it, so not much replay time at all. The boss battles are extremely repetetive, just the same patterns at the same exact timing every time for about five or six times until the stupid boss dies. All you need to figure out is what to do, and then you do it over and over again. Not even really combat. You fight off the boss and then kill any underlings helping out, and then you get one chance to hit the boss with something. By far the most frustrating one was where I had to use the Lightning power to take out four revolving generator things, which kept regenerating health. It took me about 20 minutes to beat, and was extremely boring. Just the same movement over and over, and there was no other character to keep me busy like a regular boss battle. Let me stress this once more: You do not have any control over your character whatsoever. Just the ability to draw the force patterns on the screen when they pop up. The character moves through the paths on his own. The only thing you are doing is drawing the goofy patterns whilst your character does things. The game really is just six levels of the same thing over and over, with some differing pushes and pulls throughout. The sound was somewhat nice, and the pattern recognition worked most of the time(I had trouble getting it to recognize the difference between 'push' and 'heal'). Things I would have wanted: A d-pad or joystick for moving around AS WANTED throughout the levels, a lightsaber attack button, and the ability to draw the force patterns on the screen. In short, I want a different game. But what do you expect from THQ? The only reason I played it all the way through was because I payed for it, and because the drawing thing was kind of fun. If you have a random dollar sitting around, and want Star Wars in your pocket, go ahead and buy it. It's currently on sale, and when it goes back to regular 'Star Wars merchandise' price, don't purchase it.
